The Adap4Tree project, funded through the Walsh PhD Scholarship, offers a 4-year opportunity to work on improving the genetic diversity and adaptability of key broadleaf tree species in Ireland. Research will focus on Downy Birch, Silver Birch, Alder, and Beech, with tasks including evaluating progeny trials, establishing multisite trials, and advancing genetic conservation and improvement strategies for forest sustainability. Applicants should have at least a 2:1 Honours degree in Forestry, Plant Breeding, Environmental Science, or a related discipline (Master's degree preferred). The scholarship provides a €25,000 annual stipend and up to €6,000 in university fees. Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach are essential.
